Trudi-Ann Newby-Parkes

Co-Founder & Managing Partner
Trudi-Ann Newby-Parkes is a dynamic and tenacious immigration and criminal defence lawyer who proudly stands as a testament to the saying, “circumstances don’t define you, you define your circumstances.” Trudi’s story perhaps differs from many of her counterparts but that is precisely what makes her distinctive and what drives her to fervently and ardently represent her clients.

Born in Jamaica, Trudi migrated to Canada at the age of 13. The opportunity to relocate to Canada came after her family had their own experience with the immigration system. Trudi knows first-hand what it is to have a family relocate to another country in search of greater opportunities and to be the beneficiary of a second chance. That move however came with its own challenges, but Trudi has met every challenge with an unwavering determination to succeed. She often describes herself as the rose that grew from concrete. She nevertheless reveres her struggles for without those struggles, she would not have discovered her strength. Trudi’s experiences have made her the fearless lawyer that she is today. When she fights for her clients, she fights from a place of passion and understanding. She truly fights for what she believes in.

Trudi has a robust criminal and immigration practice. She has appeared before the Federal Court, Immigration Appeal Division, immigration Refugee Board, Ontario provincial criminal courts and the Superior Court of Justice. She has experience conducting judicial reviews, criminal trials including jury trial, bail hearings as well as detention reviews and immigration appeals. While a lover of trial advocacy, where it is possible, Trudi makes every effort to negotiate and achieve favourable outcomes for her clients without a trial. In addition, Trudi has assisted hundreds of clients in preparing and filing various immigration applications including: spousal, humanitarian and compassionate, pre-removal risk assessment and work permit applications.
